Summerside NHL coach falls short in coach of the year voting

Summerside's Gerard Gallant placed a solid second in NHL coach of the year Wednesday night.

Barry Trotz of Washington won the Jack Adams award with a total of 58 first place votes.

Gallant had 20 first place votes, easily placing second. The P.E.I. coach led the Florida Panthers to an Atlantic Division title, setting a franchise record with 47 wins.

This was the first time Gallant was a finalist for the Jack Adams.
