Human remains found after Cavendish cottage fire

Human remains have been found following a cottage fire early Sunday on Route 6 in Cavendish, P.E.I. Police say three people escaped, one with serious injuries. The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.

Human remains have been found following a cottage fire early Sunday on Route 6 in Cavendish, P.E.I.

According to Queens District RCMP, first responders were called to the cottage at 5:40 a.m.

The structure was engulfed in flames when police arrived, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say three people escaped, one with serious injuries and the other two with minor injuries.

Once the fire was out, police located the remains of one person inside the structure.

The cause of the fire has not beendetermined.

  • An earlier version of this story said four people escaped the fire. In fact, three people were able to get out of the building.
