Confederation Bridge tolls increase by 50 cents in 2017

Tolls on the Confederation Bridge will increase Jan. 1, 2017 as part of the operating agreement with the federal government.

Tolls will not increase for motorcycles

The annual adjustment of tolls on the Confederation Bridge hasbeen announced by Strait Crossing Bridge Limited.

The round trip tollsfor two axle vehicles will go up 50 cents to $46.50 onthe bridgelinkingPrince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

There will also be a 50 cent increase on vehicles with additions axles, or pulling trailers, the price per axle will movefrom $7.50 to $8.

There will be no change in tolls for motorcycles, or pedestrians or cyclists that use the bridge shuttle.

Strait Crossing Bridge Limited general managerMichel Le Chasseursaid theincreases werecalculated and determined undertheoperating agreement with the federal government. Rateincreases arerelated tothe annual change in the consumer price index.

The company has a 35-year contract to operate and maintain the bridge until 2032.
