Charlottetown city councillor asks for more security in Victoria Park

Charlottetown city councillor Mitchell Tweel says he would like to see increased securityin Victoria Park.

In part, he's worriedPokemonGo! players could cause accidents by blocking the bike lanes, but said there are other issues, including drinking and vandalism.

Tweelhe wants to see the patrols in the park go from four days a week now Thursday to Sunday to every day.

He added he also asked the city to have patrols for up to 10 hours a day.

'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound in cure'

"We need to have that consistent enforcement and if you're going to have consistent enforcement, it has to take place seven days a week. And we want to make sure that everyone is safe," said Tweel.

"The old saying is true 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound in cure'. So that is the rationale. That is the logic. That is the track that we're on."

Tweel said having the extra security there is important but added it is stillbeing discussed at the committee level.
