Charlottetown high school gets police officer

Charlottetown police will station an officer at Colonel Gray High School this fall.

Theuniformed officer will be at at the school for three months starting in September. It's a pilot program.

"This is in part a response to some drug activity and some other issues that took place in and around the school over the past few years," said deputy chief Gary McGuigan.

"We've been speaking with the school, we've been talking with staff, and we feel that by putting a resource officer in the school for this particular period of time that it will have the most impact and we will try and curb some of those activities."

The officer will be a resource for staff, students, parents, and residents living around the Gray, focusing on drugs, cyber bullying, traffic and vehicle-related issues in the area.
