Charlottetown Curling Club gets $25K from city to pay off debt

The Charlottetown Curling Club will receive $25,000 from the city to stay afloat.

Council voted Tuesday night to give the club the financial assistance, although more had originally been requested.

Club president Phillip McInnis said the 128-year-old club is grateful for the help.

"The big thing is that we are in operation for another year," said McInnis.

"We have carried debt over the past couple of years and this money has allowed us to pay two local suppliers that we really needed to pay off in order to start up the plant for another year."

McInnis won't say how much debt the club currently carries, just that it's a significant amount.

The club has hired a new management team and is offering new programs for juniors and seniors. McInnis said he hopes these changes will boost membership numbers and improve the bottom line.
