P.E.I. ceilidh booklet to help music-loving tourists

A P.E.I. man is publishing a free guide to help Islanders and tourists keep on top of all the ceilidhs happening across the province.

There are dozens of ceilidhs held every summer from one end of the Island to the other often featuring fiddlers, singers and dancers.

Eastern Media president Wallace Rose saidmany people come to the Island looking to experience the musical culture but sometimes have a hard time figuring out where the ceilidhs are held.

For the last two yearshe's put out an online guide at ceilidhs.cathat received close to 10,000 uniquevisitors a month during the summer.

But hisyear he decided to publish a paper guide as well.

'Something tangible'

Many people don't have internet access, Rose said, and he hopesthe P.E.I. ceilidh booklet will fill an additional need.

"We just thought it would be important to have something tangible in people's hands that would get picked up more than once or visited more than once and something that they can actually take with them," he said.

"Just create sort of aceilidhtrail across the Island and give them something that they can put in their hands and use to kind of navigate theceilidhsacross Prince Edward Island."

The guide is paid for through advertising and sponsors, so there's no charge for the guide itself or to put a listing in it.

Rose plans to drop off P.E.I. ceilidh bookletsat tourist operations and information centres.

It will be available the first week of June just in time for the unofficial start of the ceilidh season on the Island.
