A new program will help P.E.I. mothers who want to breastfeed.

A new initiative called Bosom Buddies will help women across Prince Edward Island who want to breastfeed, offeringmom-to-mom support that will boost confidence, says Health PEI.

The program is a support line that connects women who want to breastfeed with trained moms who've already done it.

"Sometimes, as nurses and doctors, we're great at being able to help them fix medical problems or problems with the breastfeeding kind of thing, but I don't know if we always give the confidence," said CarrieChappell, public health nurse and lactation consultant with Health PEI.

"So, by talking to other moms, they can get more confidence that 'she did it, I can do it too'," said Chappell.

Bosom Buddies will be offered through Family Place, a non-profit organization in Summerside, P.E.I

There have been 10 women trained for the program to date.
