Atlantic Canada removing borders for apprentices

More trades are being included in an Atlantic Canada project to allow apprentices to train in any part of the region

The Atlantic Harmonization Project is working towards seamless mobility for apprentices to obtain work experience through on-the-job training.

P.E.I. Workforce Minister Richard Brown said in a written release 10 more trades will be harmonized in the region by July 2017, including trades such as metal fabricator, carpenter, construction and industrial electrician, pipefitter, and plumber.

Brown said the partnership has been making progress, in particular on a common sets of rules and on an Atlantic logbook for apprentices.

The goal is to provide more access to job opportunities for apprentices, and a wider selection of skilled workers for employers.
