5 charged in Albany armed robbery

Five people have been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a home in Albany, P.E.I. in August.

Five people have been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a home in Albany, P.E.I. in August.

The armed robbery investigation was complicated, says RCMP Sgt. Andrew Blackadar. (CBC)

Several armed masked men entered the home and assaulted the owner and stole a large sum of money.

"This was certainly not a random act. This was a targeted attack and we believe that all individuals knew one another," said RCMP Sgt Andrew Blackadar.

"It has been a lengthy investigation given that the number of individuals, the number of suspects involved in this, the fact that they were masked during the robbery. Those are two things that really prolonged this investigation and threw us some curve balls."

All five men face numerous charges including robbery.

One of the accused will be in court Dec. 11 when his trial begins. The other four will be in court Jan. 4 to enter pleas.
