P.E.I. RCMP lay 241 driving charges during Road Safety Week

During Road Safety Week, which ran from May 17 to 24 and included National Impaired Enforcement Day, RCMP in P.E.I. laid 241 driving-related charges.

Charges include thoserelating to seat belts, driving without insurance, suspended drivers, distracted driving, other provincial traffic offences and three impaired driving charges.

The RCMP partnered with Provincial Highway Safety and government officials for both education and enforcement initiatives.

Police strategies

RCMPsaid they took an aggressive approach to try to lower the number of people injured and killed in traffic-related accidents on the Island.

Traffic enforcement, thorough investigation ofinjury traffic collisions, arresting impaired drivers and impounding vehicles operated by unlicensed or suspended license drivers helps to reach this goal, police saidas well as maintaining a strong police presence on Island highways.

RCMP also sent out their message on safe driving on social media through Twitter and Facebook. Tweets were related to aggressive and distracted driving as well as impaired driving.
