Suspect in custody after man stabbed in neck

Ottawa police have a suspect in custody after a 21-year-old man was stabbed and left in critical condition Wednesday afternon.

Son of a diplomat in critical condition after family members say a man showed up at his home and stabbed him.

Ottawa police have a suspect in custodyafter a 21-year-old man was stabbed and left in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

It happened on Fernleaf Crescent at about 1:45 p.m.

CBC News has learned that the victim is Michael Wassill. He was stabbed once in the neck and was without vital signs when he was transported to MontfortHospital.

Hospital staff later said around 3:45 p.m. that he was in critical but stable condition. He has since been taken to the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital.

Police said around 5:25 p.m. Wednesday that they have a suspect in custody in connection with the stabbing> Officers are not looking for other suspects.

Father, girlfriend and son lived at address

Neighbours told the CBC's Evan Dyer thata young man and woman were seen being escorted out of the two-storey home by police. Someone on a stretcher was also taken out of the home.

The neighbours said three people live inside: a father, his girlfriend and their adult son.

Neighbours also said the father and his wifeseparated a few months ago.

The family had lived there for "many years" since the son was a child, according to neighbours.
