Mexican man charged in Canadian Dion's slaying

A Mexican man has been charged with murder inthe October death of an Ottawa-area businessman, and police in Mexico say they are still looking for a second suspect.

Hector Juan Figueroa, 46, who was arrested in November, was formally charged Wednesday with aggravated homicide in the slaying of Daniel Dion, 51, who was originally from Sherbrooke, Que.

Dion operated a purse manufacturing business in Mexico, and was in the Acapulco area on business when he went missing in October. He was later found dead in thetrunk of his burned-out rental car.

Mexican police do not believe Figueroa acted alone, and they are now searching for his son, who hasn't been seen since the investigation into Dion's death began.

"He definitely didn't act alone," said Guerrero State Police investigator Fernando Monreal Leyva.

"According to the version of events that we have and the proof we've obtained, there's another person that helped him in the act, and in transporting the body."

Figueroa, who spent time in jail following a murder conviction,was part of the prison workforce that made Dion's purses.

A judge is now reviewing the evidence and has one week to decide whether or not a trial should be held, Leyva said.

If convicted, Figueroa faces 50 years in prison.
