Speeding motorcyclist's camera used as evidence

A motorcyclist was fined and could face criminal charges after police say he was caught filming himself speeding through the Outaouais.

MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police said a 39-year-old man from lIle-Bizard, Que., near Montreal was stopped on Chemin Meech in Chelsea, Que.,on July 27.

Policesaid they saw the driver and another motorcyclist speeding in a 50 kilometre-per-hour zone.

Police spokesman Martin Fournel said they found a GoPro camera strapped to his motorcycle and they were able to watch footage of him breaking multiple traffic rules.

A snippet of the footage posted on the police force's Facebook page appears to show a motorcyclist weaving from lane to lane, making illegal passes.

Warrant not needed for camerain this case

The driver was fined $1,264, which Fournel said he has paid.The fine was laidbased on the footage and what officers saw on the road.

Fournel said the man could also face careless driving charges.

Police do need warrants to seize footage in some instances, said Fournel, but in this case one was not needed. He said he could not give any other details.

The other motorcyclist has not been found.
