South Ottawa street reopened after bomb squad search

Residents evacuated from their south Ottawa homes as the bomb squad executed a search warrant on Topley Crescent can now return, police confirmed.

Topley Crescent is near Hunt Club and Conroyroads,in the same neighbourhood where a man was shot twice in the legs Thursday night. Police would not say if the search warrant was related to the shooting or a different investigation, but did confirm it was part of a guns and gangs unit case.

Tactical officers with the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives unit began an investigation onTopley Crescent late Friday morning, Ottawa police said. The unit includes members of the RCMP and Ottawa police, and it investigates a range of incidents, includingsuspicious packages,homemade explosive laboratories andrecovered explosives.

At 3 p.m., police re-openedTopley Crescent betweenKeys Way and Karsh Drive.
