Sex trade worker Amber Smith found safe, police say

Ottawa police say a sex trade worker who went missing two days after the body of Amy Paul was found in a field has been found safe.

35-year-old had been reported missing Wednesday in Vanier area

Ottawa police say a sex trade worker who went missing two days after the body of Amy Paul was found in a field has been found safe.

Amber Smith had last been seen in the Vanier area.

When she was missing Ottawa police said there appeared to beno connection between Smith's disappearance and the murderof 27-year-oldAmy Paul, another sex worker whose body was found in a field on Tuesday.

Police are asking sex workers to stay in pairs and well-lit areas.

Word of Smith disappearance came quickly

Ottawa police sent out a news release a day after Smith was reported missing.

When Pauldisappeared,police didn't send out a release until her bodywas found.

Police said Wednesday it's up to the missing persons investigatorto decide whether to issue a release,considering active leads and other factors.

"I'm really hoping that the Ottawa police are taking these reports extremely seriously and that in the case of Amy Paul, it wasn't a case of neglect," said Frederique Chabot, an advocate for sex workers.
