2 airlifted to hospital after separate crashes in rural Ottawa

Two people were airlifted to hospital after crashes just over an hour apart in two rural areas of Ottawa on Tuesday afternoon.

Ornge responded to collisions near Dunrobin, Metcalfe little more than hour apart

Two people have beenairlifted to hospital after separate crashes a little more than an hour apart in Ottawa's rural areas Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were first called to a collision between two vehicles atSixth Line Road and Thomas A. Dolan Parkway just before 3 p.m., which is in the city's rural western edge near Dunrobin.

A woman in her late 70s was airlifted to the trauma centre at The Ottawa's Hospital's Civic campus in serious condition with a head injury, while another person was treated at the scene, paramedics told CBC.

Emergency crews were then called to another crash involving a car and a tractor trailer just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of 8thLine and Parkway roads near Metcalfe, which is in the city's rural southeast end.

Same air ambulance used for both crashes

Ottawa firefighters say they extricated threepeople from the car before paramedics took over care.

Paramedics said all three patients were male and one was airlifted by the same ORNGEairambulance used in the first crash.

The two others were taken to hospital by ground ambulances, paramedics said. All three suffered multi-system traumatic injuries.

Police closed Thomas A. Dolan ParkwaybetweenFifth Line Road/Greenland Road and Sixth Line Road/Torwood Drive, and Torwood Driveat Kerscott Heights Way near Dunrobin.

Officers also closed8th Line Road between Mitch Owens and Parkway roads, and Parkway is closed between8th Line and John Quinn Road near Metcalfe.
