Science and Technology museum asks for public feedback on redesign

The Canada Museum of Science and Technology wants to hear from Canadians on its proposed redesign to bring the museum back to life.

Following months of work with architects and consultants, staff unveiled a sneak peek into its new concepts for the 2017 reopening of themuseum, after it closed last September when workers discovered airborne mould.

Now, plans are underway to tear down and rebuild the museum in its current location on St. Laurent Boulevard.

New exhibits, programs and a overhauled, eye-catchingentrance are all in the works, said museum staff member Gabrielle Trpanierat one of the first public consultations held over the weekend at the St. Laurent Centre.

Museum wants to showcase full collection

The new layout will mean much more of the museum's collection can be displayed, she said. At the old museum, only two per cent of the collection was on display.

"You'll be able to see a lot of artifacts, to touch and feela number of them and there will also be high-tech interaction," saidTrpanier.

"It's our opportunity to really bring out all the gems in our collection. All the weird things, the interesting and beautiful things and really showcase what we have."

But fans of the former museum shouldn'tworry,Trpanier added. Traditional favourites like the popular locomotives and Crazy Kitchen will still be around.

The museum will be holding more public consultationsat the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum on June 13, and at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum on June 14between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The museum's online survey will be available until June 20.
