Assault charges laid after officer injured at Sandy Hill house party

Two teen girls and a young womanhave been charged with aggravated assault after an Ottawa police officer suffered injuries while responding to a loud house party in Sandy Hill earlier this week.

Police were called to the party on the 100-block of Henderson Avenue, near Osgoode Street, just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrivedthe tenant asked police to remove several people from his home. As they were doing so, three young women "became combative and assaulted one officer, causing her serious injury," police said in a news release issued Thursday.

"Other officers responded to assist and the three females were taken into custody."

The officer went tohospital to be assessed as a precaution. She was thenreleased, Ottawa police spokesman Const. Marc Soucysaid.

A 16-year-old girl, 17-year-old girl and 18-year-old woman are each charged with one count of aggravated assault on a police officer.

An 18-year-old man was charged with several firearms and drug-related offences after large quantities of cocaine and psilocybin mushrooms were seized from the home, along with a few MDMApills. A rifle, shotgun and ammunition were also found and seized, police said.
