Carleton president to head Canada Foundation for Innovation

Departing Carleton University president Roseann Runteis set to take on the role of president and CEO of the CanadaFoundation for Innovation in August, the foundation announced Wednesday.

Runte announced her departure fromCarleton, effective July 31, 2017, at the university's board meeting on March 23.

The CanadaFoundation for Innovation, a federally funded organization, gives money to Canadianuniversities, colleges, hospitals and non-profit organizations to carry out research.

Runte will succeed Gilles Patry, who has served as the foundation's presidentsince August 2010. Patry was also a former university administrator, having spent many years atthe University of Ottawa.

Runte was the first woman to be hired as president and vice-chancellor in Carleton University'shistory.

"As president and CEO of the CFI, Dr. Runte will work with governments to help strengthen Canada's capacity to do world-class research with state-of-the-art research infrastructure," said Kevin Smith, chair of the CFI's board.
