Diane Deans re-elected in Gloucester-Southgate for 8th term

The people of Gloucester-Southgate appear to like what Coun. Diane Deans is dishing out. With all 97 polls reporting in the south-end ward, Deans has held onto her seat for her eighth consecutive term.

The people of Gloucester-Southgateappear to like what Coun. Diane Deans is dishing out.

With all 97 polls reporting in the south-end ward, Deans has held onto her seatfor her eighth consecutive term with 56 per cent of the vote.

Her closest rival,KS on the Keys restaurant ownerRobert Swaita, garnered 3,435 votes to Deans's 6,179.

Deans was first elected to represent the area, then called Southgate, in November 1994, before amalgamation.

Gloucester-Southgate and neighbouring Alta Vistahave recently been trying to deal with gun violence in theWalkley Road area.

The results remain unofficial until the city clerk verifies the final poll counts, which is expected to happen by Thursday.
