Arrest made as police evacuate Ottawa's Rideau Centre

Ottawa police say one person is in custody after they were called to an incident at the Rideau Centre mall, which only opened Tuesday after being closed by a three-week occupation of the city's downtown core.

Employees who work at the Rideau Centre in downtown Ottawa say they were scared and frustrated after police evacuated the mall early Tuesday afternoon, on what was supposed to be its first day back open after the end of the convoy protest.

Ottawa police say one person is in police custody after they were called to an incident at the Rideau Centre mall.

People inside themall saypolice told them to leave early Tuesday afternoon.

Sources tell CBC News police recovered an imitation firearm after responding to a shoplifting call. Police also tweeted Tuesdayone person was in custody and the operation continues.

The mall reopened later Tuesday afternoon and police said the investigation is ongoing.

The mall had justreopened Tuesdayfor the first timesince closing Jan. 29 due to the occupation of the city's downtowncore.
