Dog stabbed to death in Glebe park leaves owners distraught

An Ottawa couple are distraught after their dog was stabbed to deathin the Glebe on Wednesday.

In a telephone interview with CBCNews Thursday, Hades Park saidKyanggothe German shepherd was injured during an argument between his wife and another dog owner atPattersonCreek Park, and soon died.

The veterinarian who performed thenecropsy on the dog Thursday ruledKyanggohad been stabbed in the chest with a sharp object, lacerating the dog's rightlung and piercing an aorta.

A dog was stabbed to death in the Glebe on Wednesday. Sen. Jim Munson, who lives by the park where the incident occurred, was shocked to hear the news.

The "clear cut" was about half an inch to 3/4 of an inch long, according to the vet's report.

Police confirmed only that an investigation is underway after officerswere called to Linden Terracealong the northern edge of the park at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, and found a dead dog.

Altercation with other dog owner

Park sobbedwhile describing what happened.

"He's only one yearold," hesaid. "We don't have kids. He's our son. We did everything we could to make him happy."

Park explained that his wife, Pepho Park, was sitting on a park bench near Patterson Creek on Wednesdaywhile Kyanggowas drinking water.

When Kyanggo suddenly startedbarking at another dog, Hades Park said his wifegrabbedKyanggo's harnessbut didn't see clearly what happened next.

"She didn't see anything.She was too busy [grabbing the harness and trying] to make him stop barking," he said.

The other dog owner started yelling at his wife, callingKyanggo aggressive. He then took a photo of the two of them and left, Hades Park said.

'He was gone already'

Moments later, PephoPark saw blood.

She initially thought it was a bite from the other dog, but when police arrived they told herit could also have been a stab wound, Hades Park said.

The veterinarian's necropsy report said there was no evidence of a bite wound.

"My wife saw the blood on my dog, and the blood just came out like really fast, so she was pressing [down], and then she looked at him and he was gone already ... my dog literally fell down on the grass," Hades Park said.

Ottawa police areinvestigating, with help from thebylawdepartment.
