The Ottawa Locks station on the Rideau Canal has reopened after a technical issue had to be fixed overnight.

The station reopened at 9 a.m. ET after the wooden heel post, which acts as a hinge for the lock, cracked.

The post had to be reinforced with steel overnight, said Scott Tweedie, associate director for theRideauCanal National Historic Site.

On Thursday morning, 20 boats on the Rideau Canal and seven boats on the Ottawa River were docked waiting for the locks to reopen.

In June, thefederal government announcednearly $40million for severalRideauCanalinfrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of bridges, dams and locks.
