People 70 and older in Ottawa, Kingston, LGL now eligible for vaccination appointments

People aged 70 and over are now eligible to book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment at a mass immunization clinic in Ottawa and communities covered byKingston, Frontenac and Lennox & AddingtonPublic Health and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit.

Residentscan book vaccine appointments through the province, either online or by calling1-888-999-6488 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

But in a news release Monday, the City of Ottawa said its clinics are temporarily fully booked, as it waits for the next batch of COVID-19 vaccines to arrive in the coming days.

"The provincial extension of the vaccine appointments this morning to residents aged 70 and older citywide has resulted in the booking of all appointments available up until April 7," it stated.

However, residents aged 70 and older living in rural areas and priority communities will still be able to get their shots through the city's pop-up clinics by calling613-691-5505.

The move covers eight other health units in Ontario, including Hamilton and the Niagara area. Toronto expanded to this age group on Saturday.

The age for vaccine eligibility for the rest of the provinceremains at people born in or before 1946, but rules can vary from region to region.

People age 60 or older have been eligible for a vaccine at pharmacies in the Kingston area. That may soon expand to some pharmacies in Ottawa.

Renfrew County has said it has had supply problems and isonly ready Monday to offer appointments to people ages 75 to 79.
