Ottawa high schools to host opioid abuse info sessions

In response to a "growing concern about drug overdoses" the Ottawa Carleton District School board will hold a series ofinformation nights across the city aboutopioids and drugabuse.

Last month, a 14-year-old Kanata teen died from an overdose. Ottawa police confirmed that pills found near the body of Chloe Kotval tested positive for fentanyl, a deadly opioid.

Shortly after, hundreds of parents in Kanata attended meetings to talk about how to deal with illegal drug use.

Under the banner "the more information you have, the better equipped you are to parent", the board is bringing together representatives fromOttawa police, Ottawa Public Health, andRideauwood Addictions and Family Counselling to answer questions.

The sessions will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.on the following dates:

• Wednesday, March 8 at Earl of March Secondary School
• Thursday, March 9 at Glebe Collegiate Institute
• Wednesday, March 22 at Longfields Davidson Heights Secondary School
• Thursday, March 23 at GloucesterHigh School
