Mlanie Joly recommends NCC board seats for Ottawa, Gatineau mayors

Canadian Heritage Minister Mlanie Joly is calling on the National Capital Commission to include both the mayors of Ottawa and Gatineau on its board, her office confirmed Tuesday.

Canadian Heritage MinisterMlanie Joly is calling on the National Capital Commission to include both the mayors of Ottawa and Gatineau on its board, her office confirmed Tuesday.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson andGatineauMayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobinhave previouslycalled on the prime minister tomake significant changes to theNCC, including elected representatives for each city on the board.

Joly recommendedin a letter to the NCCthat each mayor have a seat, but without the right to vote.

The NCC board would have to approve the recommendation.

"Sign me up!" Watson tweetedin a thank-you note to Joly about the news.

"I'm on board! Great news for our two cities,"Pedneaud-Jobin tweeted in French in response to Watson.
