Man shot in leg on Ritchie Street

Ottawa Police are investigating an afternoon shooting on Ritchie Street in the city's Britannia neighbourhood.

4th time in a month Ottawa shooting victims were shot in legs

Ottawa Police are investigating an afternoon shooting on Ritchie Street near Carling Avenue in the city's Britannia neighbourhood.

Police said they received the call at about 3:02 p.m. ET about a shooting. Police confirmed the male victim had called them after he had been shot in the lower left leg. He was later escorted by police to hospital.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Guns and Gangs Unit at 613-236-1222 Ext. 5050.

Three previous times in the last month Ottawa Police's guns and gangs unit have investigated incidents in which men were shot twice in the legs. But police said Monday there was no direct connection this incident and the others.

Last Thursday a man in his20swas shot just after 7 p.m. onHorsdalPrivate, a short street nearConroyand Hunt Club roads in the city's south end.

Ottawa police are searching for the alleged shooter in that incident 31-year-old Mohamed Abdi Abdullahi who is believed to be armed and dangerous. He is described as five foot ten inches tall, 190 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. Abdullahi is expected to be charged with several firearm offences, police said.

On July 1, a man went into the Ottawa Hospital with gunshot wounds to each leg around 3:30 a.m. but refused to disclose where the shooting happened, police said.

And on June 22, a 24-year-old man refused to provide a statement after being shot in each thigh in the ByWard Market around 2:30 a.m, Ottawa police said.
