LeBreton Flats redevelopment down to 2 proposals

National Capital Commission to review bids ahead of public consultations in new year

Sports and culture are at the heart of the final two proposalscompeting for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats.

The National Capital Commission said Tuesday that it will review the bids byDCDLSGroup (formerlyDevcoreGroup) andRendezVousLeBretonGroup, which represents theOttawa Senators, to make sure they meetrequirements ahead of public consultations in the new year.

When shortlisted in February, the NCC said bothproposed green spaces, commercial and residential developments, as well as their own unique facilities for the 9.3-hectare site.

Rendez Vous LeBreton Group also proposed "a major event centre for sports and entertainment performances" while DCDLSproposed "a concept with multiple cultural institutions developed around an grandalle."

The NCC said more details about the proposals will be released during public consultations scheduled forJanuary 26 and 27 at the Canadian War Museum. The public will also be invited to offer feedback on the proposals online.

The winning bid is expected to be announced in early 2017.

The NCC initially invitedfour groups to submit high-quality design proposals and financial plansafter being shortlisted in February 2015.The NCC said that two of the pre-qualified groups Focus Equities andClaridgeHomes did notsubmitmore detailed proposals.
