Gatineau police investigating homicide in Old Hull

Police in Gatineau, Que., are investigating a homicide after a man was found injured and unconscious on rue Eddy Friday evening.

As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests had been made

Police in Gatineau, Que., are investigating the city's fourth homicide of the year after a man was found injured and unconscious in Old Hull Friday evening.

Officers were called to 187 rue Eddyshortly after 8 p.m. Friday, according to a press release from the Gatineau Police Service.

The man later died after being takento hospital. As of Saturday afternoon, no one had been arrested.

Neighbours told CBC the lower part of the building on rue Eddy had been undergoing renovations for several months after a clothing shop closed down.

Paul Houle, who lives nearby, said news of the man's death was "shocking" but added he wasn't overly surprised it happened in his neighbourhood.

"The police are often called tointervene for whatever reason," Houle said. "It's sad."

Marcus Kitschke has lived in the area for two years, and said he was home with his girlfriend and her daughter Friday night when he saw police descend on the home.

He then saw someone being put into an ambulance.

"Stuff happens [in the neighbourhood] all the time. You know, just out of nowhere," he said. "It's calm, and then out of nowhere something happens."

A large police perimeter was erected around rue Eddy at approximately 4 a.m. Saturday morning, and the area isstillunder surveillance.

The streetwas closed to traffic but has since reopened.

An autopsy will be performed Monday, police said. The victim's name and age have not been released.
