1 dead, 3 injured in head-on Highway 417 crash near Arnprior

One person is dead and three others are injured followinga head-on collision on Highway 417 in rural west Ottawa.

One person is dead and three others are injured followinga head-on collision on Highway 417 in rural west Ottawa.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the crash happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. after a driver travelling east crossed the centremedian of the highway andcrashed head-on into a westbound vehicle.

Ottawa paramedics confirmed one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three others were injured, they said, including a woman in critical condition and a woman andinfant eachin serious but stable condition.

Highway417 was closedin both directions from County Road 29 to KinburnSide Road for the OPPinvestigation. The highway has reopened in both directions, OPP said in an update late Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened about 40 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa and 10 kilometressouthwest of Arnprior, Ont.
