Ex-Dodgers pitcher Eric Gagn to start Ottawa Champions' final regular season game

The Ottawa Champions' regular season comes to an end this afternoon but not before a formerCy Young Award winner takes the mound at RCGT Park.

Eric Gagn, a bespectacled fireballerwho won the award in 2003 after saving 55 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will start today's game against the Quebec Capitales.

Now 40, the Montreal-born Gagnlast pitched in the major leagues in 2008. Last month, he signed a contract with the Champions to start the team's final game of the regular season.

Coincidentally, Gagnwill be sharing the bullpen Monday afternoon with the winner of theCan-Am League's own equivalent of the Cy Young Award.

Champions' hurler Austin Chrismon, a former Houston Astros draft pick,was named the league's pitcher of the year after going 8-3 with a 2.37 ERA.

Monday's game gets underway at 1:35 p.m. The fourth-placeChampions then have one day off before the playoffs begin.
