UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon drops by Glebe Collegiate

Ban Ki-moonmight only be in Canada for 48 hours, but the UN Secretary-General still made time to take questions from a group of Ottawa high school students.

Ban and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dropped by Glebe Collegiate Institute on Thursday afternoon to take part in a student assembly.

The CBC's Sandra Abma was there.

Unfortunately, the hectic schedules of world leaders don't always mesh with those of high school students.

Trudeau and Ban did eventually did show up, however, and the pair received a warm reception.

Ban told the crowd of high school students that engagingyoung people around the globe is one of his top priorities.

Before they arrived at Glebe Collegiate Institute, Trudeaumade the announcement thatCanada would belooking to win a seat on the UN Security Council as part of a move to renew its relationship with the world body.

"We're looking at a number of windows in the coming years. We are going to evaluate the opportunities for Canada to mount a successful bid," Trudeau said earlier Thursday.

Ban's two-day visit to Canada also includes a stop in Montreal.
