Vigil for missing Dartmouth woman

Family and friends of a missing Dartmouth N.S., woman held a vigil Monday night.

Melissa Peacock, 20,went missing exactly five weeks agoand about 20 people gathered in Shannon Park to hold candles and say prayers.

James Slauenwhite said the second vigil held for his daughter had one purpose.

"To keep everything fresh in their minds that Melissa is still out there. We still don't know where, or with who. We just want to let people know," he said.

Slauenwhite said police are doing the best they can and hehopes someone would let them know if they had seen his daughter.

"It's not easy," he said. "We just keep going every day and just keep our hope and be strong for each other."

The family plans to continue holding vigils and posting missing signs until Peacock is found.

'We're waiting for you'

Rufus Peacock, the missing woman's grandfather, said it was hard for the whole family.

"I'll tell you one thing I have learned from it now I know what other families feel like that have gone through the same thing," he said.

"If Melissa is listening right now, I'd say come home. We're waiting for you."

Peacock was last seen Nov. 7 at Ryan Gate in Dartmouth at about 11 p.m. She is described as a black woman with a very light complexion, 51 and 105 lbs. She haslong brown hair.

Police say she has crooked teeth and tends to smile without showing them. When last seen, her hair was in a ponytail and she was wearing tight jeans, an oversized black EKCO sweatshirt and sneakers with pink accents.

She has no bank accounts. Her phone has been turned off since she was reported missing.
