Truro police searching for missing 3-year-old

A search is underwayfor a missing three-year-old boy in Truro, NS.

The boy's name is Dylan and he disappeared early Wednesday afternoon.

His grandfather told CBC news the boy was visiting his grandmother when he went missing.

"She just turned her back for a minute and he was gone," said Norman Brown in a brief phone conversation.

Brown said Dylan had turned three just a couple of weeks ago.

"He's very active.The best kid you ever want."

An intense search that included Truro Police, Truro Fire Service, Colchester Ground Search and Rescue, and air support from the Department of Natural Resources took place throughout the afternoon.

A release from police late Wednesday night indicated that searchers were concentrating their search efforts near the waterway of the Salmon River.

"The search team continues to be hopeful and will continue their search efforts throughout the night," stated the release.

Dylan was wearingcamouflage pants, rubber boots and a fur-lined hoodedwinter coat embroidered with U.S. flags.He was last seen near Queen and Elizabeth streets in Truro.

The searchbegan around 1:30 p.m.

A helicopter could be seen circling the Truro area throughout the afternoon and evening.

CN Railsent trucks up and down the rail line along Lepper Brook to look for Dylan.

'Another pair of eyes'

James and Carole MacKenzie were among the dozens of people in Truro who joined the search effort.

"Searching, just trying to help, just another pair of eyes," said James MacKenzie, who was checking along the railroad tracks.

"We're just trying to do something," added Carole MacKenzie. "It felt better than staying home because of everything that's been happening."
