Man charged after girl found in Yarmouth taxi with gunshot wounds

A 22-year-old man from Yarmouth was arrested on Wednesday and has been charged with a number of weapons offences and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

A man has been charged after a 17-year-old girl was found in a taxi with serious gunshot wounds in Yarmouth, N.S., on Tuesday.

RCMPsay the driver of the taxi had flagged down police on Tuesday evening out of concern for hispassenger.

The teenager was found inside the vehicle with seriousbut non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.

The RCMP say the girl hadbeen socializing with several people at a home on Cliff Street when she was shot.

Police believe the victim and suspect know each other.

A22-year-old man from Yarmouth, N.S., was arrested at a home on Butler Street without incident on Wednesday.

He has been charged with:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm

The man was held in custody overnight and was scheduled to appear in Yarmouth provincial court on Thursday.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Lisa Croteauwould not sayhow the victim ended up in the cab.
