Shilo Beals arrested in Ontario on Canada-wide warrant

A Nova Scotiaman wanted in connection with the death of Kevin Bowserwasarrested Wednesday morning after police received a tip.

On July 14, a Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for 31-year-oldShiloMarcinoBealsof Cherry Brook. He facescharges of first-degree murder and six weapons-related offences.

The charges relate to an incident onJuly 10, 2004, at approximately 10 p.m., when police received reports of a shooting near 5450UniackeStreet in Halifax.

When officers arrived, they found28-year-old Kevin James Bowser suffering from gunshot woundsin front of 5446 Uniacke Street.

Bowser was pronounced dead a short time later.

Wednesday morning, Ontario Provincial Police,along with Emergency Response Teams, a canine unit and members of Provincial Repeat Offenders Parole Enforcement (ROPE) arrested Beals at a homeon Highway 89 in New Tecumseth, Ont.

Beals is scheduled to appear in the Criminal Court of Justice in Barrie, Ont., Wednesday afternoon for a bail hearing.

Investigators with Nova Scotia'sMajor Crime Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division will travel to Ontario in the coming days to bring Beals back to Nova Scotia to answer to the charges.

Bowsers death is part of Nova Scotias Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program.The Department of Justice program pays up to $150,000 for tips that lead to convictions.

The department said the tip that led to Beals's arrest came through the program.

"Its too early for us to comment on what the outcome might be, as payouts under the program are dependent on a conviction," said spokesman Andrew Preeper.
