Schools cancelled as nor'easter blows through Nova Scotia

Most schools across Nova Scotiaclosed Mondaydue to a nor'easter bringing heavy snow and high winds to the region.

All English school boards are closed, and many French schools are closed or classes have been cancelled.

Meteorologist Tina Simpkinsaid the snow began overnight and was expected to spread west to east throughout the day. She said another five to 10 centimetres wasexpected before the snow tapersoff Monday afternoon.

Winds are also expected to be high, with wind gusts of up to 80 kilometres an hour possible along areas of the coast. That could cause blowing snow over exposed areas.

Marine Atlantic cancelled its midday crossings from North Sydney toPort aux Basques, N.L.

Canada Post hassuspendeddeliveries for the day inCape Breton, Dartmouth and Halifax. It said deliveries would resume once it's safe to do so.

Halifax Regional Municipality said the overnight winter parking ban will be in place between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday.
