RCMP investigate Kentville child's death

Nova Scotia RCMP are investigating the unexplained death of a three-year-old boy four days ago in the Annapolis Valley.

The child's death is now classified as an unexpected sudden death, Sgt. Brigdit Leger said Wednesday.

An autopsy has been conducted, she said, and police are investigating every possibility, including foul play.

"In any investigation in a sudden death, we want to interview any individual who has had contact with the deceased, any information that can be gleaned from the scene, as well follow up with results from an autopsy or forensic analysis that may be done in this instance," Leger said.

"We don't want to leave any stone unturned. We want to speak to anyone who may have had any involvement in this matter at all It's important that we continue with that investigation, gather all the evidence that we can before determining a cause of death in this matter."

The boy died at his homein Kentvilleon Saturday afternoon. Someone called 911 from the home on Oakdene Avenue, Leger said.

General investigation, major crime and forensics identification officers are still on the scene, looking into the boy's death.

Police confirmed there was another child living at the home.

A shrine of stuffed animals was piling up outside the little boy's home this week. Thomas Johnstone dropped off ateddy bearWednesdayfor a toddler he never knew.

"We kind of feel sorry for the little one, and we kind of wanted to drop a little teddy bear off for him. We know he's not here, but we wanted to drop it off," Johnstone said.
