Suspect charged with murder after body found in Sydney apartment

The body was discovered in a MacAulay's Lane apartment Tuesday after officers were called to investigate reports of a disturbance.

Cape Breton Regional Police have laid a second-degree murder charge after a body was found inside an apartment in Sydney on Tuesday.

In a news release Thursday morning, police said Leonard Anthony Tenass, 34, originally from New Brunswick but now living in Sydney, was arrested Tuesdayand remainsin custody at the Cape Breton Correctional Centre.

Officers were first called to an apartment building on MacAulay's Lane on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. local time.

"Originally, police received a call to 911 for an individual who was causing a disturbance outside one of the residences, banging on some doors, that type of thing," said police spokesperson Desiree Magnus.

"As a result of being at that residence on MacAulay'sLane, they did discover a deceased person inside."

Magnussaid the person is believed to be a "victim of an assault."

The provincial medical examiner's office is working toidentify an exactcause of death. Police did not release the name of the victim or any other details.

Magnus said the pair were known to one another and policeare treating the matter as an isolated incident.
