Rash of car-pedestrian collisions during Monday rush hour

A rash of car-pedestrian collisions has Halifax Regional Police renewing calls for both drivers and pedestrians to be careful.

A 53-year-old man received minor injuries, and a ticket, after a collision with a vehicle during rush hour Monday evening.

Around 6 p.m., police responded to the call at the intersection of North Street and Gladstone Street and found a motorist and a pedestrian being tended to by bystanders. After a interviewing witnesses, the pedestrian was issued a ticket formoving into the path of a moving vehicle when impractical for the vehicle to stop.

Paramedics treated theman and he was released at the scene.

Around the same time, police in the HRM and RCMP in Lower Sackville investigatedtwo other vehicle/pedestrian collisions.

Halifax police responded to a callat the intersection ofRobie Street and Shirley Street. An83-year-old female driver was ticketed for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The male pedestrian had already left to be treated for minor injuries at the hospital.

In Lower Sackville, RCMP received a call or a vehicle hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The 25-year-old pedestrian was crossing at the intersection of Sackville Drive and PinevilleDrive when it was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 34-year-old man. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries.

RCMPsay the collision happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday and no charges have been laid at this point.
