Old Guysborough Road house fires leaves 2 dead

At least two people aredead after a house fire in the Halifax areaon Wednesday afternoon.

The house on the OldGuysboroughRoad near WysesCorner, N.S., was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived at about 4:30 p.m. The fire was still burning as of 9 p.m.

"When fire crews arrived more than one body was found dead inside the home," saidBrendanElliott, a spokesman for the Halifax Regional Municipality.

One victim was a man.Elliott saidthe number of bodies inside the home remains unclear.

"Firefighters won't know the total count until they have done a safe and secure search of the whole house," he said in an email. "We know of two for sure."

RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Karine Bernier saida third person remains unaccounted for.

Five Halifax Regional Fire andEmergency stations responded, along with firefighters from theEnfieldand Stewiacke stations.

Ten trucks and30 firefighters fought the fire. Elliott saidthe integrated Halifax Regional Police & RCMP Integrated Major Crime unit are investigating the scene.
