Wintry forecast cancels classes in eastern N.S. and Cape Breton

Some parts of eastern Mainland Nova Scotia and all of Cape Breton saw up to 15 centimetres of snow and winds gusting up to 70 km/h.

Special weather statements were issuedin Antigonish, Guysborough, and Pictou Counties in Mainland Nova Scotia, and all counties in Cape Breton (Greg Guy/CBC)

Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education schools in Pictou County and allschools in Strait Area Regional Centre for Education are closed Thursday, as aspecial weather statement was issued for some parts of the province early this morning.

All special weather statements in the province were lifted by 10 a.m.

Affected regionssaw up 15 centimetres of snowwith winds gusting up to 70 km/h, according to Environment Canada.

A combination of heavy snowfall and blowing winds could lead to poor visibility at times.

Nova Scotia RCMP are warning people in Pictou County todrive with caution.

The statements were issued early this morning inAntigonish, Guysborough, and Pictoucounties in Mainland Nova Scotia, and all counties in Cape Breton.
