Messy Maritime weather leaves people without power

The messy weather in the Maritimes left people without power and kept emergency crews busy.

Power outages occurred in all three provinces early Sunday

The messy weather in the Maritimes left people without power and kept emergency crews busy.

By midday Sunday, thousands of residences across the Maritimes did not have power. By late afternoon, power had mostly been restored.

In Nova Scotia, the Mayflower Mall in Sydney closed due to a power outage.

In New Brunswick, the outages were minimal. As of late Sunday afternoon, just over 40 households in FrederictonandSussex didnot have electricity, saidNB Power.

In Nova Scotia and P.E.I., there were no outages late in the afternoon.

Emergency services

In southern New Brunswick, it was a busy Saturday as rescue workers dealt with stormrelated accidents.

In Quispamsis, there was a head-on collision on Millenium Drive around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Emergency workers cut off part of the roof and theside of an SUV after it slid into a ditch. Two people were injured and transported to hospital.

In Saint John, nine collisions were reported between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
