Human remains found after fire at remote Nova Scotia island

Yarmouth Rural RCMP havefound human remains after a fire that occurred overnight Friday on a remote island near Little River Harbour.

One man escaped fire, second could not be originally found

YarmouthRuralRCMP havefound human remains after a fire that occurred overnight Friday on a remote island near Little River Harbour.

Around1:50a.m.,police received a call for help from Upper Calf Island.

Policelearned that two men had gone to a camp overnight and that the camp had caught fire. One man managed to escape the fire but the second man could not be located.

While police responded, the fire burned itself out.

On Saturday, human remains were located in the rubble of the fire.

The RCMP'sforensic identification service and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Serviceis involved in the investigation.

It was initially reported the island was Broomstick Island, but police corrected that in a media release Sunday.
