Macdonald Bridge foot and cycle traffic switches to shuttles

Cyclists and pedestrians lost direct access to the Macdonald Bridge on Monday, switching to a shuttle as work on the Big Lift continues.

Their lanes will be shut for 18 months as crews replace the decking on the Halifax to Dartmouth crossing.

Halifax Harbour Bridges hasset up a free shuttle service that will operate 24/7. The shuttles can hold 17 passengers and haul a dozen bikes. During the day, they'll go over the Macdonald Bridge and overnight use theMacKayBridge.

The shuttle service will use a "load and go" system during peak morning and afternoon travelling times. The rest of the timeit willrun every half hour.
