Killer Glen Race to undergo more assessment

Glen Race, a Nova Scotia man serving a life sentence for murder in the U.S.,must undergo 30 more days of mental-health assessment to determine if he's fit to stand trial in the deaths of two people in the Halifax area3 years ago.

Race, from Dartmouth, is charged with first-degree murder of Michael Paul Knott, 44, and Trevor Charles Brewster, 45.

During a brief appearance in Dartmouth provincial court Friday, he was ordered to undergo further testing following a judge's order last month that he undergo an initialassessment.

Raceis scheduled toreturn to court on Dec. 17.

Defence lawyer Joel Pink has said he expects the court will consider Race's paranoid schizophrenia in dealing with the case.

Knott's body was found on a path in a wooded area in Mill Cove on May 5, 2007. Four days later, Brewster's body was discovered stuffed under a boardwalk in Dartmouth.

Race was arrested May 15, 2007, at the U.S.-Mexico border and charged with killing Darcy Manor in upstate New York just days earlier.

In January 2009, Race was sentenced to life in prison, and The Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service started the process to have him extradited.

Race will be sent back to the U.S. after the court proceedings are done.
