Human remains found in Pictou County

The RCMP and New Glasgow Police Service confirmed Saturday evening human remains were found at a property in Heathbell, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

The RCMP and New Glasgow Police Service confirmed Saturday eveninghuman remains were found at a property in Heathbell, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

According to an RCMP news release, officerslocated the remains early Saturday afternoon after a search warrant was executedin relation to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Amber Kirwan.

Kirwan, 19, went missing Oct. 9 after leaving a Dooly's pool hall in New Glasgow. She told friends at 1:30 a.m.she was walking to a nearby convenience store to meet her boyfriend, Mason Campbell, who said she never showed up.

Police and Forensic Identification Specialists remained at the scene Saturday evening and were assisting in the removal of the remains.

Police are working with the medical examiners office to identify the remains and to determine a cause of death.
