Halifax Transit suspends bus and ferry service ahead of storm

Halifax Transit has taken the unusual move of pulling bus and ferry service ahead of a major snowstorm due to hit the city Wednesday.

The city announced Tuesday evening thatbuses and ferries, including Access-A-Bus vehicles, will not run before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Road conditions will be monitored and a decision will be made about the rest of the day at 10 a.m.

In a release, Halifax spokespersonJennifer Stairs, says the city is still cleaning up after Sunday's storm and conditions will be challenging.

"Keeping the buses off the roads, even temporarily, will help crews properly clear main arterial routes," she said.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Halifax, with up to 30 cm of snow expected by Wednesday evening.
