Geraldine, Halifax library mascot, looking for new home

Spring Garden Road's most famous giraffe is looking for a new home.

For more than 20 years, Geraldine an eight-foot-tall stuffed giraffe has greeted visitors to the youth section of the Spring Garden Road Library's first floor.

"Geraldine is a Steiff Studio showpiece, circa the early 1990s, and was originally owned by The Dollhouse toy store on the Halifax waterfront," says the library's website.

"She was donated to the Halifax Public Libraries over 20 years ago and has lived at the Spring Garden Road branch since then."

After three decades of service, Geraldine has retired and is looking for a new home to spend the rest of her days.

Last spring, more than 120 fans wished Geraldine a happy retirement.

According to the librarys website, Geraldine is not in the best "health."

After 20 years of children petting her, the fur on her front shoulder and a few other spots has worn off. There is also burn damage on the top of her head from a run-in with a light bulb and the library says she's a bit dirty.

She's also a little unstable and the new library doesn't have a secure place for her to stand.

Geraldine is free to a good home. The library will be accepting names online and the lucky winner will be drawn July 28.
